Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
One of the most historic and celebrated teams in MLB history, the New York Giants can trace their origin back to the Troy Trojans who played four seasons in the new formed National League from 1879-1882. Due to low attendance, the Trojans packed up and moved to New York for the 1883 season. This lot includes four World Series programs, all featuring the New York Giants. We have a pair from 1933, along with a pair from the 1954 Series. Led by pitching ace Carl Hubbell, the Giants easily defeated the Cronin-led Senators in the 1933 World Series in 5 games. The 1954 Series would again see the Giants making quick work of their competition, sweeping the Cleveland Indians in four straight games. The ’54 Series is also well remembered for Willie Mays amazing and historic catch, snaring a long line-drive off Vic Wertz.
The condition for the five offered World Series programs are as follows. 1) 1933 program issued for the Polo Grounds, scored for Game 1. The front and back cover exhibit light wear including some toning, with some light staining near the middle of the spine. There are also some light creases, along with a slight center-bend. The interior remains clean, with just light toning. Measures 9 ¼” x 11”. 2) 1933 program, unscored. At roughly 7 ¾” x 10 ¾”, there is wear along the spine including a tear along the bottom, and the program exhibits a vertical crease that runs through the publication. With toning along with small creases and cover dings, the interior remains clean with some additional wear and light creasing. 3) 1954 program issued for the Polo Grounds, unscored. With a pencil notation on the cover, the program at roughly 8 ¾” x 11 ¾” exhibits just light handling wear, with a corner crease to the cover in the bottom right. It also appears to be missing its center spread/scorecard.
