Exceptional old Czech jersey was donned by Josef Cerny, an exceptional forward who played in Czechoslovakia’s top league for some 20 seasons and who represented his country at numerous World Championships and Olympics. This is the jersey Cerny wore while captaining the Czech team at the 1970 World Championships in Sweden where Czechoslovakia finished third behind the USSR and Sweden. Everything is sewn-on the blue cotton sweater including the classic lion crest and Josef’s captain’s “C”. Two-tone cloth numbers are sewn on cream-colored felt. Tie-neck style jersey has a red, white and blue knit neckline and collar and shows nice game use with some black stick marks on the sleeves.
There are five small holes and slices on the right sleeve and a couple on the left. Curious is an 8-inch piece of black elastic sewn along the hem and straddling the right seam, so as to hold the shirt tight to the body. Some nice interior pilling is to mention, including some around the back of the collar, where a small tag bearing an “A” is sewn in. The inside of the formidable jersey (behind the “5”) was signed in black marker by Cerny who added “1970 - Stockholm”. Worn by one of Czechoslovakia’s finest, it’s sure to excite international jersey enthusiasts.
