Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Extremely popular throughout the early-to-mid 20th century, punchboards were created for a number of different sports allowing participants to wager a small amount at the possibility of a prize. At 11” x 12 ¼” and roughly ½” thick, this particular board has 1200 spaces to be chosen for a dime a piece. Each selected hole when “Punched” will release a number, with the winning numbers listed in two vertical rows on the upper right and left hand sides. The winning cards are located beneath the centralized flap, with the team listed on the winning cards denoting the prize amount.
Canadiens paid $10, the Leafs $5, with the four remaining original six teams paying out $1 each. Most likely from the 1940s/50s, the piece remains in good condition with 21 prize cards intact. A winning prize card along with two game pieces will also be included.
