With legendary Hall of Fame star Eddie Gerard returning to the club for a second stint behind the bench, the Montreal Maroons would finish in second place in the Canadian Division at the conclusion of the 1932-33 NHL season, with fellow HOFer Hooley Smith proudly wearing the “C”. Utilizing the fame of the Maroons, the National Breweries issued an advertising display to sell their Dow Old Stock Ale featuring the 1932-33 Maroons, and we offer a framed example. Featuring wonderful full-colour lithography, the entire Maroons squad is lined-up on either side of the Dow girl, with each player listed beneath. The photo has sadly been heavily trimmed from its original dimensions of approx 13” x 30”, to its current size of roughly 7” x 30” (3 inches are missing along both the top and bottom sections). Set in a period frame with gold wash, the vintage photo still makes for an attractive display despite being trimmed down.
The print appears to show light to moderate wear with toning and a large stain over the lower left, with heavier wear including a few blemishes to the frame.
