Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Contributing to the success of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Howie Meeker would register 34 points including 14 goals during his sophomore campaign in 1947-48, and after completing the regular season in first place, the Leafs would advance to the postseason. The Bruins would be the club’s first victim before sweeping a young Gordie Howe and the Detroit Red Wings in the final to earn their second of three consecutive championships. This vintage Stanley Cup bowl was presented to Howie Meeker for his status as a 1948 Stanley Cup champion. At just over 5” in height with an 8 ¾” circumference, the bowl exhibits a wonderful, chased floral pattern, with “National Hockey League” and “Stanley Cup Winners – Season 1947-48” engraved over the front. The reverse has “Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club Ltd” and “Howard Meeker” engraved. Three hallmarks are stamped into the underside, along with “S.P. – Copper” and “Sheffield Reproduction”. Displaying beautifully, the trophy exhibits tarnishing and minor surface wear throughout, with a small section of the bottom of the base slightly pushed-in. The rim has also lost its circular continuity. Originally obtained directly from Mr. Meeker, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
