Jacques Laperriere describes the Montreal Canadiens' 1971 playoff run as the highlight of his playing career. Never known for his offense once he joined the Canadiens, Laperriere failed to score a goal during the 1970-71 season and then produced four goals and nine assists for a remarkable 13 points as he played in each of the Canadiens' 20 playoff games that spring. With the additions of Frank Mahovlich and minor league goalie Ken Dryden, the Canadiens upset Boston in a remarkable seven-game quarterfinal that stunned Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito's Big Bad Bruins. Montreal survived a semifinal scare with a six-game win over Minnesota and advanced to face Chicago. The Black Hawks featured a powerful lineup that boasted Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita and Tony Esposito's stellar goaltending. Despite breaking a bone in his left forearm early in the series, Laperriere played a big part in the seven-game win over Chicago and was the first player to embrace Dryden as the Canadiens celebrated their unlikely championship. This trophy is the original that was presented to Laperriere by the NHL. It was commissioned from noted silversmith Carl Poul Petersen and stands just under 13" tall. This remarkable award exhibits significant tarnishing on the barrel of the trophy with a spot over where some of the players' names are engraved and a larger spot to the right of that, as well as another spot on the right side of the Cup's bowl. A fantastic trophy from one of the Canadiens' greatest Stanley Cup wins, this collectors' item comes with Jacques Laperriere's signed letter of authenticity.
