The Stanley Cup returned to Montreal in 1965 after a five-year absence following the team's record run of five straight Cups from 1956-60. This was the first Cup the team won under captain Jean Beliveau, who claimed the first Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP following the Canadiens' seven-game win over Chicago in the final. It was the first of six Stanley Cups as a player for Jacques Laperriere, who was named to the NHL's First All-Star Team as a sophomore defenceman in 1964-65. Laperriere, wearing the No. 2 of his idol Doug Harvey, had made the Second All-Star Team the previous season as a rookie while beating out teammate John Ferguson for the Calder Trophy. This original silver-plated trophy was the one presented to Laperriere by the NHL. It stands 12 ½" tall and has the names of the Canadiens' players and executives engraved on it below the heading "National Hockey League, Stanley Cup Winners, 1964 – 1965, Club De Hockey Canadien Inc." Laperriere has signed the green felt bottom underneath the black base of the trophy, which is the handiwork of renowned silversmith Carl Poul Petersen. This remarkable memento remains in excellent condition and represents the first championship of Montreal's "Forgotten Dynasty" of the late-1960s, a team that won four Stanley Cups in five seasons between 1965-69. A prized addition to any Canadiens collection, this trophy from Laperriere's personal collection comes with his signed letter of authenticity.
