Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
After a seemingly long 4-year period without a Stanley Cup victory, fans in Montreal were again able to venerate their hockey heroes in the spring of 1965 as the Canadiens recaptured hockey's ultimate prize. The Habs finished the regular season in second place with 83 points before taking out Toronto in a 6-game semi-final, and outlasting Chicago in the final, winning the 7th and deciding game 4-0 on home ice. A contributor to the Canadiens' four Stanley Cup titles in the 1960's, left winger Gilles Tremblay, like his teammates, received a personal miniature of Lord Stanley's coveted trophy to commemorate the championship season. At a majestic 12 ½”, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in two columns below the Habs executives, with “Club de Hockey Canadien Inc.” and “1964-1965”. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Covered with a rich coat of patina, the trophy has some chipping to the finish along the top rim, with a few blemishes and marks present. The trophy also appears to have been reglued to the base, with residue present in spots along with the small noticeable holes that once held nails to secure it. There is also some chipping to the finish in a few spots along the very bottom, beneath the text.
