Absolutely stunning, brilliant and with vibrant colors, this stirring old wool jersey was worn by Buddy O'Connor in the 3rd annual NHL All-Star Game, played in 1949 in Toronto. The NHL's Hart trophy winner two seasons earlier, O'Connor appeared in his one and only All-Star game along with fellow Rangers’ Chuck Rayner, Edgar Laprade and Pat Egan. A crowd of 13,541 watched as the All-Stars beat the Stanley Cup champion Maple Leafs 3-1 on goals by Bob Goldham, Paul Ronty and Doug Bentley, with Bill Barilko scoring previously for the Leafs in the first. A McNiece's of Montreal label is sewn in the left hip area. A gorgeous thick chenille NHL crest with "1949" at the bottom is on the front along with a row of white felt stars. Five other stars arch above O'Connor's blue and white felt number "5" on the back. Cherished and preserved in like-new condition for over five decades, the sweater exhibits just a tiny blemish along the interior collar along with some light wear to the striping section of white and blue wool, just beneath the left shoulder. A classic and ever-popular style of All-Star game gamers, this sweater truly is museum-worthy. Originally obtained directly from the family of Hall-of-Famer Buddy O'Connor, this precious treasure will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Classic Auctions.
