The 1999 season was the start of a new chapter in Jacques Villeneuve’s racing career, he made the decision to leave Williams and joined the newly formed British American Racing (BAR). The season was very trying for Jacques and the team as he failed to finish the first 11 Grand Prix’s of the season and had a best result of 8th at the Italian Grand Prix. This Bell Dominator helmet painted by Bell S.P.O.R.T.S. Europe in Jacques’ traditional style has been tagged “99-2” by Bell staff. The helmet shows light wear inside and has a half dozen plus small chips in the paint. The helmet has all Jacques’ customizations; the vents are closed-off, extra eye-port foam has been added, the drink tube is drilled out and taped-off and the full radio remains intact. There is photo reference of this helmet possibly being worn at the 1999 Spanish GP, held May 30th 1999 (Getty Images #1222624) where Jacques pitted on lap 40, suffering from a broken rear wing element. The mechanics pulled the broken element off the wing, but first gear broke when Villeneuve tried to leave his pit box, and he retired. The chin strap has been signed by Villeneuve. A vintage visor signed by Villeneuve was mounted to the helmet as no visor was present on it. Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. 99-2 DDM” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
