Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

The 2001 season was the third one in F1 for the BAR Honda team. The team was looking to build off the 2000 season, which saw them take leaps in development of the car and engine. The team did extensive testing that paid off with Jacques recording ten top 10 finishes with 2 podiums, a third place finish in both the Spanish and German Grand Prix’s and a seventh overall place in the F1 drivers’ Championship.
This Bell K1 helmet was introduced for the 2001 season and it has been painted in Villeneuve’s traditional design by Bell SPORTS Europe and has been tagged 2001-01 on the back. This helmet was painted with sponsor logos from the 2000 season; there are images that show Jacques testing at the Circuit de Jerez in Spain from Jan 15-17, 2001 with the logos visible. He then completes another test day on Feb 1, 2001 at the Circuit de Barcelona with the sponsor logos covered by the 2001 sponsor logos, which is how the helmet remains. The helmet shows very nice wear and use with a few paint chips on the front. As with all of Villeneuve’s helmets, extra eye-port foam has been added while the heli-tape covering the front vents has been removed. The drink tube has been drilled and the full race radio remains intact.
This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
