Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

The 2005 season was a tough one for Jacques Villeneuve and his teammate Felipe Massa as the Sauber Petronas team struggled to be competitive. His best finish was 4th in the San Marino Grand Prix and he finished the season 14th in the Championship standings. This helmet was worn during the Malaysian Grand Prix held at the Sepang International Circuit from March 18-20.
The very rare Bell HP1 helmet, which was manufactured for only one season, has been photo-matched to Jacques walking back to the paddock after crashing out of the race on lap 26. The helmet was painted by Bell Racing Europe in Villeneuve’s traditional design. The back of the helmet is tagged 2005/02 and the Malaysian flag sticker was applied to the back of the helmet by Bell trackside staff. The full race radio and HANS clips remain as well as the visor which still has the unused tears-off affixed from the Malaysian race. The helmet shows nice race wear inside and out and would make an outstanding centerpiece to any racing collection.
This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
