Jacques Villeneuve carried the #1 for the 1998 season as a reward for being the 1997 World Champion. Jacques and the Williams team were going to try and defend the title with a new car, the Williams FW-20, and a new engine supplier Mechachrome. The chassis and engine struggled during the season and Jacques could only manage 2 podiums and a 5th place finish in the World Championship. This Bell dominator helmet painted by Bell S.P.O.R.T.S. Europe is tagged “98.17” on the lower back which tells us it was the 17th helmet painted in 1998 livery. The helmet is in Jacques' traditional paint scheme and as per all of Jacques’ helmets, extra eye-port foam has been added and the upper front vents have been tapped-off, the top vents were also mostly tapped-off; this was to reduce airflow into the helmet. The helmet shows nice wear and use inside and out with a number of small chips in the paint and the race radio remains intact. The chin strap has been signed by Villeneuve. A vintage Winfield visor signed by Villeneuve was mounted to the helmet as no visor was present on it. Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “JV 98-17” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
