Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Signed as a free agent by the Montreal Canadiens on February 8, 1985, goaltender Rick Knickle would see action in 14 games with the affiliate Sherbrooke Canadiens that season, with the offered mid-1980s Canadiens jersey attributed to Knickle’s use during one of the following preseasons. Steve Penney wore the #37 jersey in 1985-86 and there is evidence of a shorter former nameplate the appropriate size for "Penney" underneath the current example. Penney played 18 regular-season games for the Habs in 1985-86 (no playoffs games), his last season with the team, so the possibility of use by Penney exists as well. A partially-detached Maska label with “54” sizing and a “86 01” born-on date tag are affixed to the collar, and we should note this set were first used during the second portion of the 1985-86 season and in the playoffs/finals. Styled with the famous and sacred CH team crest, “37” appears over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Knickle” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. Exhibiting light game use, there is wear to the team crest with some minor puckering, with a few puck marks visible over the left sleeve. Obtained directly from the Montreal Canadiens, a Classic Auctions LOA will accompany.
