Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2022
Joining his famous brother as an NHL superstar beginning in the 1968-69 season as a member of the Stanley Cup-champion Montreal Canadiens, goaltender Tony Esposito was claimed on waivers by the Chicago Black Hawks the following season where he earned the coveted Calder Memorial Trophy. Tony O would guard the “Madhouse on Madison” crease for his entire career, appearing in six All-Star Games while securing a trio of Vezina trophies. Concluding his HOF tenure in 1983-84, we have a signed stick used by Esposito during the 1980s, most likely in an oldtimers capacity. A Sher-Wood PMPG model with “Esposito” and “35” stamped to the upper shaft, the original black tape remains over the blade and paddle, and white-over-black to the knob, with the stick exhibiting light game-use which includes puck marks, paint transfer and small dings to the blade tape from the stick hitting the tips of Espo’s skate blades. Remaining completely solid, there is a tear to the blade tape, with Esposito signing the paddle in black marker.
