Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Dressing for nine different clubs throughout his two decades of professional hockey including the Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens, David Ling was issued this Canadiens jersey during his time with the club in the mid-1990s (played 2 games for Montreal in 1996-97 and 1 game in 1997-98). Sporting evidence of a former longer nameplate, we should note that the jersey was likely first issued to Andrei Kovalenko, who spent his lone season with Montreal in 1994-95 (no player is listed as wearing the #51 jersey before Kovalenko), and was most likely recycled for Ling for the 1996-97 preseason. A single size “56” fly tag is affixed to the collar, with CCM and NHL crests over the reverse hem. Styled with the most famous team crest in hockey, “51” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Ling” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. Game-issued, the jersey appears to have been washed, and with some minor pilling from the fight strap present and faint burn marks over the left sleeve, the jersey likely saw game-use. An LOA from the Montreal Canadiens will accompany.
