Beginning his career in his home nation with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors, and concluding in Austria with Ljubljana Olimpija HK, Matt Higgins was drafted 18th overall by Montreal in 1996 and saw action in parts of four seasons with the Habs. This Canadiens jersey was worn by the Calgary native in the late-1990s. Originating from Montreal’s 1997-98 set, Higgins played just a single game for the Canadiens that season (Nov 26, 1997 at home vs Washington) in which the Habs wore their red jerseys, and it is unknown if the jersey was worn in that game, or in either of the 1997-98 and/or 1998-99 pre-seasons. A Starter Center Ice label is affixed to the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 56. Styled with the most famous team crest in hockey, “46” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Higgins” across the affixed nameplate in single white twill. Sporting light game-use with a few burn marks over the right elbow section, there are also a pair of very small holes directly beneath the nameplate, with no clear evidence of a former nameplate. An LOA from the Montreal Canadiens will accompany.
