Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Hockey imagery on vintage utilitarian items isn’t common, especially one’s perfect for display like the offered examples in this lot. We have a pair of early 7 ¾” “Souvenir of Red Deer” plates in blue and brown transfer, with an image of landmarks along with the ladies hockey team. There’s a set of 5 matching 10 ¾” Mayer plates from Dartmouth College, with sports scenes including hockey and football. We have a small child’s tea cup with an image of Mickey Mouse playing hockey, as well as a pair of small 6” bowls from the Preston Guild where Lord Stanley was mayor. Also included is an additional 10” Dartmouth plate in green transfer with images of the campus.
All items have makers marks on the reverse (except the Mickey cup), and all exhibit regular wear commensurate with their former use, which includes some crazing, surface wear and light scratches. The Dartmouth “scenery” plate has an identification sticker affixed, while the blue transfer Red Deer plate exhibits light staining. The brown Red Deer plate also exhibits a crack, with clear tape adhered to the reverse. One of the Preston Guild bowls also exhibits a heavy crack.
