Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
A lovely and charming image of a "hockey girl" helps to headline this interesting gathering, with the large 1902 Turkish Trophies card (6" x 8") having survived well over one hundred years in pleasing crease-free condition. Wear at the corners render the infrequently-seen tobacco premium VG-EX, with an array of nifty pieces joining it. A Diamond Match full matchbook picturing/profiling Chicago's Andy Blair is accompanied by 13 matchbook covers featuring St. Louis Eagles players including several notables; Bill Cowley, Syd Howe, Carl Voss, Frank Finnigan, Max Kaminsky and goalie Bill Beveridge. Decent condition overall is to report, with a few torn/partial strikers to note. Al Murray (Americans) and Louis Trudel (Black Hawks) covers are also present, while half a dozen other neat matchbook covers include one with a 1940-41 Boston Bruins schedule on the interior, another hailing the Bruins' '38-39 Stanley Cup title (no striker) and a Kansas City Americans example with schedule from the same era. Three others are restaurant-related and include images of Jimmy Orlando, Phil Bessler and an unknown "Chez Midas" hockey team. There's an empty pack of Ogden's Guinea Gold Cigarettes (Imperial Tobacco of Canada) and three British entries; the outer cardboard box of a Godfrey Phillips B.D.V Sports cigarette pack pictures Joe Beaton of the Richmond Hawks, while Les Anning and Duke Campbell are featured on blue-tinted "Turf" cigarette pieces.
