Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Listing modest prices for various hockey items including skates and sticks, this lot feature’s a trio of antique turn-of-the-century hockey catalogs/brochures, accompanied by three circa-1910 antique photo booklets. First, we have a Harold A Wilson catalog (6 ½” x 10”), with the Toronto dealer exhibiting his wares for the 1906 hockey season, with a wonderful period player depicted on the cover. This is followed by a circa-1900 brochure for Starr Skates out of Nova Scotia (3 ½” x 6 ¼” folded), again with a period player shown, and a Nestor Johnson “Hockey and Racing Skates” catalog produced for the 1911-12 season by the Chicago company. The photo books include two matching “Montreal in Half Tone” booklets from circa 1910 (approx 8” x 11”, with string wound spines, each cover differs in colour), along with a gorgeous high-grade circa-1910 “Winter in Canada” booklet with the original pictorial shipping envelope. The Wilson catalog exhibits heavy wear with clear tape along the spine and back cover, with paper loss and light water damage, while the Starr brochure also shows heavy wear with stains, tearing, paper loss and toning. The Nestor Johnson catalog remains in beautiful condition, with just a bit of loss to the upper and lower right hand corners, with the “Winter in Canada” booklet in stunning high-grade as mentioned, with no issues, with heavy toning/spotting and tears to the original envelope. Lastly, the Montreal Half Tone booklets both include hockey images (as does the Winter in Canada booklet), with each having wear to the covers (one has a date handwritten), while the interior pages just show some minor toning.
