Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Thanks in large part to modern phenoms like Angela James, Hayley Wickenheiser and Angela Ruggiero, women’s hockey has finally got the respect that it deserves. But to fairly acknowledge the present, we must first pay homage to the pioneering women from the game’s infancy. In this lot we have a number of historically important items all pertaining to women playing the world’s fastest game. Included are a number of items rarely seen, with 5 original team photos, including 3 from the turn of the century. There’s a pair of fans from the early-1900s, a calendar from 1911, a hand-embellished postcard, a serving tray with gorgeous imagery and a binder with 39 modern prints of early female teams.
The included modern prints are mostly 8” x 10” with some duplication, the 1911 calendar is 4 ½” x 10 ½” with a full pad and toning along with rust to the staples. Two of the antique photos are different images of the same team with “A.I.” on their sweaters, both in excellent condition with wear to the mats, while the other early photo is 7” x 9 ½” with some creasing on the left hand side. There is a photo of the Scranton Girls Hockey Club, with the members pictured on roller skates. The back of the mat has been signed by 15, with a large crease through the mount. Next we have an 8” x 10” photo of the Solloway Mills and Company team from 1928-29, with the photo exhibiting creasing, toning and general wear. Both early fans remain in pleasing condition and picture a number of sporting women including hockey, with the smaller example dating 1906, while the larger fan is now void of its former handle. The serving tray is oval in shape and measures roughly 10” x 13”, with an image of a young girl and boy chasing after a puck. With considerable wear to the back, the front displays well with some scratches and edge/handing wear.
