Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Formed during the height of the Roaring Twenties and short-lived, the Quebec Castors (Beavers) played in the direct ancestor of the AHL, the Canadian–American Hockey League. The club disbanded in 1935, with owner Lucien Garneau transferring the franchise to Springfield, Massachusetts, to form the second incarnation of the Springfield Indians. Culled from Quebec programs by one diligent fan, we have a collection of 19 1934-35 Castors program inserts, accompanied by 18 original Quebec Castors programs, with 11 from 1933-34 and 6 from 1934-35 (there is also a Castors program from 1927-28 with Winnipeg Falcons legend Slim Halderson on the cover). At approx 5 ½” x 8 ½” and with duplication present, the thin-stock leaflets feature 9 different players and 9 different team management members including an insert for Habs’ owner Leo Dandurand. Players include Buckles, LaFrance, Wilson, Alexandre, Raymond, Field, Runge, Leduc and goaltender Abbie Cox. The majority of the inserts exhibit toning, light creasing and some water staining, with a few also sporting tears. The majority of the programs remain in beautiful high-grade condition with just very light handling wear.
