With the Winnipeg Falcons crowned as the first Olympic gold medal winners in 1920, the Olympic hockey tournament also served as the Ice Hockey World Championship from it’s inception until 1968. First dominated by Canada, the tournament witnessed the Soviets in control for decades, with Canada, Russia and Sweden all winners within the last five Olympiads. This lot offers a huge collection of Olympic hockey postcards, first day covers and ticket stubs totaling approx 433 and ranging from the 1920s to 2002. Included, we have 2 postcards from the 1924 Games including one showing Canada in action, 3 postcards showing action in 1928 including two matching that feature Canada, 24 postcards from 1932, with the majority featuring the Lake Placid Olympic Arena, 26 postcards from 1936 with approx 6 showing game-action – with the majority featuring venues, along with a dozen European “Sammelwerk” cards. From the 1956 Games, we have 21 postcards showing venues, plus 6 German cards and a Kitchener Dutchmen first day cover along with a hockey game ticket stub, followed by 16 postcards from the 1960 Games along with 5 first day covers, approx 16 postcards from 1964 including Soviet, US, Czechoslovakia, and Swedish team postcards, 6 first day covers and a pair of venue hockey ticket stubs, 22 postcards from 1968 – with the majority showing venues, along with 9 first day covers, 4 postcards from 1972 including 2 of team Czechoslovakia plus 4 first day covers, and 8 postcards from 1976 including the Soviets and Swedes, plus 5 first day covers and a Feb 7 ticket stub. From the 1980 Mircale on Ice, we have 2 different Soviet team photos, 12 postcards and a Game 18 ticket stub (this is not the Miracle on Ice game, or the final vs Finland) along with 10 first day covers and 11 Impel Miracle hockey cards. From 1984 to 2002, we have an additional 164 postcards, 13 team photos and 21 first day covers. There are also 5 ticket stubs, including examples from 1984, 1988 (2), 1992 and 1994. The majority of the items show light to moderate handling wear.
