This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Recognized as the first black player in the NHL along with the black player that could have been first, we have a collection of team photos totaling 6 featuring Willie O’Ree, along with a card advertsing Herb Carnegie and his “Black Aces” teammates playing at the Magog Arena, on Feb 6, 1946. The team photos all feature O’Ree and are in the 8” x 10” range, with examples for the 1959-60 Kingston Frontenacs, 1961-62 LA Blades, 1962-63 Blades, 1963-64 Blades and 1964-65 Blades (2). Each photo exhibits pinholes and corner wear, with the odd crease visible. The Carnegie advertising card is 4 ¾” x 6 ½” and pictures the Black Aces, with each player’s name listed along the base, with moderate handling wear present along with toning, minor creases and glue residue over the reverse.
