Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
From the famed Springfield Indians of the AHL and worn from mid-January in 1975 through to the end of the Calder Cup Finals that spring when the club would win it all is this sensational Indians jersey. A Champion lebel with “48" sizing is affixed to the collar, with all identifiers heat-pressed on, including the Indian head logo, number "3" on the shoulders and verso and striping bands on the sleeves and waist. A short-lived style and especially attractive, this vintage sweater would fit nicely into any AHL or vintage jersey collection. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Regarding condition, there are a few marks and scuffs over the lower front, with some wear to the rubberized accents. There are also two team repairs, with one over the lower front, the other, on the lower reverse. The Springfield Indians changed their name to the Kings in 1968 when the franchise became part of the L.A. Kings fold, and even changed the colors to purple and gold like their parent team. But in ’74-75, Eddie Shore once again took full control, changed the name back to the Indians, went back to the original blue, white, and red uniforms for the season, and captured the club’s fifth Calder Cup. An impressive game-worn jersey from a tremendously important chapter in Springfield hockey.
