Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
From the legendary Mickey Mantle, a man mentioned in the same breath as other larger-than-life New York Yankees such as Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio, has signed in beautiful clear blue ink (along with adding”536 HR’s”) on this unused and immaculate Rawlings “Official Ball, American League” with a president Bobby Brown facsimile signature. “The Mick” was almost a modern day version of Babe Ruth – a supreme long-ball hitter who completely embraced the good life and was a natural fit in the Big Apple. He career overflowed with grand achievements – a .298 batting average, 536 dingers, a 20-time All-Star, 7-time World Series champ, 4-time home run champ, his number retired at Yankee Stadium in 1969, and ultimately inducted into Cooperstown in 1974 on the first ballot of course. Mantle would pass away on August 13, 1995 at the age of 63. This ball is a wonderful treasure and reminder of one of baseball’s greatest players.
