Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
The “Manassa Mauler” Jack Dempsey was the decided underdog going into the July 4th, 1919 heavyweight fight in Toledo, Ohio against the much bigger (but less determined) Jess Willard, and in front of 45,000 fight fans in sweltering heat, young Dempsey would knock Willard down seven times in the first round, cruise through the next two until Willard declared that he was unable to continue, and from that, Dempsey would hold the heavyweight championship of the world until 1926 when he would lose to Gene Tunney. We have a beautiful Willard-Dempsey bleacher ticket stub from the big 1919 event, measuring 2 5/8” x 5” and preserved in magnificent shape with mostly sharp edges and just a small and faint mark on the left border. Truly an important ticket that also features a facsimile Tex Rickard signature and a printed “Wartax Included”.
