Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Legendary titans of the ring (and bitter rivals), Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier, squared off in 3 historic bouts during those 1970s heady heydays of pugilism, and we have 2 incredible pieces involving these amazing battlers. Placed into a 25” x 29” frame and tastefully matted with “Ali” and “Frazier” graphics is a beautiful shot of the 2 in their pre-fight pose, gloriously signed by both combatants in clear and bold gold paint pen. As cool as can be, with Ali delightfully signing on his image as “Muhammed Ali AKA Cassius Clay”. Also offered is a 25” felt pennant from the March 8, 1971 “Fight of the Century”, remaining in outstanding condition with no pinholes and with clean and bright colors, signed by Frazier in clear black marker and Ali in bluish marker. Incredible display pieces, with the framed photo complete with an LOA signed by a representative of PSA/DNA along with a Notary Public. Ali and Frazier would clash in 3 bouts that transcended boxing – the 1971 “Fight of the Century”, won by Frazier in 15 rounds; the 1974 Ali-Frazier second bout in January of 1974, won by Ali in 12 rounds; and the “Thrilla in Manila" from October 1975, won by Ali after the 14th round.
