The late, great Roberto Clemente’s autograph is among the 23 signatures on this 1954 Montreal Royals team-signed Spalding baseball. The deceased HOFer was 19 years old when he spent a summer in Montreal as the Brooklyn Dodgers tried to hide him from the rest of the major leagues on their top International League team but the Pittsburgh Pirates took note and snatched Clemente up after the season. Roberto has signed simply “Clemente” along the left side of the “Official International League” stamp with league president Frank Shaughnessy’s facsimile signature. The late Joe Black, the 1952 NL rookie of the year, is among the rest of the Royals who have signed, including the likes of Rocky Nelson, Dixie Howell, and Gino Cimoli. Wonderfully preserved with blue ink autographs. Clemente’s stands vertically and runs through the end of Macon’s autograph onto the red stitches. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA. Among those who have signed the ball are Clemente, Black, Nelson, Howell, Cimoli, Jack Cassini, Arthur Fabbro, Walter Fiala, Bill Harris, Wally Hood, Ken Lehman, Max Macon, Glenn Mickens, Chuck Templeton, Dick Whitman, Bob Wilson, Dick Young, Glenn Cox and Ronald Owen.
