Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Russian-born Alex Karpovtsev, who perished when the plane carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl KHL team tragically crashed in 2011, wore this Toronto Maple Leafs gamer in the spring of 1999 when he and his Leafs were battling in the playoffs. Tagged in the collar as a Nike (size) "56", along with a "Center Ice" Patch sewn on and a screened on "NHL Player" patch, this gamer, with the classic and partly embroidered team crest, the two-toned number "52" on the back and arms, and single lettering on the nameplate, also features the "1931-1999 MLG Memories & Dreams" patch sewn on the right breast. Game marks are light with a scattering on both sleeves, but the left sleeve also exhibits 2 team repairs, a dandy bonus for any jersey collector. All in all a fine game-worn Leafs jersey from a fellow who suited up for 596 regular season NHL games with 5 different teams, and at the time of the terrible plane crash in Russia, Karpovtsev was the assistant coach for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
