Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

The goaltender who backstopped the 1927-28 Rangers and ’32-33 Maple Leafs to Stanley Cup titles, Lorne Chabot was tending goal for the Port Arthur Ports senior team when this card was issued with a Paulin’s Hockey Bar. Originally catalogued as a 1923-24 issue, research reveals the promotion by Winnipeg-based Paulin’s actually ran for two seasons, beginning in 1924-25. Pre-dating Chabot’s official rookie cards by several years, the card here has a redemption stamp on the back and its appealing VG-EX 4 grade makes it a Pop-4 at PSA with just one similar (stamped) example ever graded higher by the company.
