Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Interesting 1930s-era photo gathers together the entire rosters and executives of both the Ottawa Senators and St. Louis Eagles at centre ice. The photograph, mounted on card stock, is identified in pencil as having been taken by an Ottawa firm so we assume the venue was also located in the capital city. In 1934, the Senators were moved to St. Louis, Missouri and operated as the St. Louis Eagles. The Eagles played only one season, finishing last again, and the NHL bought out the franchise and dispersed the players to other teams. After the NHL franchise relocated, the Senators continued as a senior amateur team in the Montreal Group of the Quebec Amateur Hockey Association (QAHA), beginning in the 1934-35 season. One player, Eddie Finnigan, played for both the Senators and the Eagles in 1934-35. Perhaps this photo is a representation of these two teams. In any case, it is a rare and collectible image, measuring about 6 "x 10" and mounted onto a larger cream matte. In near-excellent condition.
