A three-time Stanley Cup champion as a HOF player and eight-time Cup winner as coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Toe Blake even enjoyed success during the seven seasons he spent in the career transition from Hart Trophy winner to one of the greatest coaches in NHL history. Originally from the Toe Blake collection are these two pieces commemorating the late, great Blake’s hand in coaching the 1950-51 Valleyfield Braves to the inaugural Alexander Cup title as Canada’s senior hockey champions. A huge original framed 28” x 19” team photo with Blake pictured in the middle of the second row is featured along with the deceased HOFer’s own “Alexander Trophy” presented to him back in the day. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
Blake’s vintage and original colorized team photo displays to the dimensions mentioned above within a cream-colored textured matte that has water stains around the outer edge and exhibits some darker tones of discoloration. The huge team photo includes former NHLers Jimmy Orlando and Jack Schmidt.
The personal trophy presented to Blake has “Alexander Trophy C.A.H.A. Major Series” nicely engraved on the front of the bowl, which measures 4 1/4" in diameter and stands 2 1/4" tall. The bowl, which is missing some of the gold-colored outer layer around the lip, is perched atop a half-moon shaped wood base that measures 6 1/2" x 2 3/4" at its widest and stands 1 3/4" tall. “Valleyfield Braves, Champion 1950-1951, Hector “Toe” Blake, Don, Chambre de Commerce des Jeunes” is engraved on the curved gold-colored plaque on the front of the base, which has a bit of wear to the top edge of the flat back panel and less on the other edges. The French plaque indicates that it was donated by the Youth Chamber of Commerce.
