Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Jersey from the seldom-seen first set of 1979-80 Penguins gamers was worn by defenseman Mario Faubert. Stall & Dean and laundry instruction tagging sit in the back of the neck along with size 52 and “9” year flag tags. Penguins logo and numbers are heat screened vinyl while the white mesh nameplate has blue twill surname letters sewn on. There are three team repairs on the back of the right sleeve and a pair of sewing fixes on the left sleeve. More game wear includes board burns on the sleeves and black marks on the front tail. A rare find! These gamers were used more sparingly as the Pens recycled many of the prior years’ sweaters over into the beginning of the 1979-80 season. In January 1980 the team would switch from the blue-and-whites to the black-and-golds in an attempt to mimic the city’s current world champions, the NFL Steelers and the MLB Pirates.
