Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
The contracts are vintage file photocopies but the key signatures are the real thing on these mid-1970s NHL Standard Player's Contracts for the Leafs Inge Hammarstrom. First, a 3-year deal for Hammarstrom (1974-75, '75-76, '76-77) which is a 2-page document complete with a Central Registry stamp, signed on page 2 in beautiful blue ink by league prez Clarence Campbell and dated by Campbell as "May 12th, 1975". Next is a 2-page contract for Hammarstrom for 1977-78 (with a 1978-79 option), giving the figures as $100,000.00 and $110.000.00. On the bottom of page 2 is a rare and beautifully signed signature from league prez John A. Ziegler, in what appears to be fountain pen. These 2 documents, although photocopied, were treated as originals when sent to NHL headquarters, as per the original presidents' signatures. Also included are 2 other documents including a typed sheet from Leafs GM Jim Gregory (unsigned), dated April 24, 1975 and mentioning that Hammarstrom is a pro hockey player, employed by the club for the past 2 years, and was admitted to Canada on an entertainment visa. The final document, also photocopied, is from Gregory to Hammarstrom, dated Nov. 17th, 1977, clarifying that the agreed upon contract is for 1 year plus an option year and not a 2-year deal. All 4 documents remain in excellent condition.
