From the vaults are 5 Toronto Maple Leafs player contracts and agreement documents, which are always fascinating reads to be sure. We have a two-year contract beginning in 1973 for player Steve Dolloff ($20,000 & $25,000), signed by Clarence Campbell, Jim Gregory, and Dolloff; a two-year deal at the same time with the same numbers for Les Burgess, signed by Campbell, Howard Starkman, Jim Gregory, and Burgess; a 1972 Try-Out Agreement for Michael Ruest, signed by Starkman, Gregory, and Ruest; a 1975 contract extension for Ruest, signed by Campbell, Starkman, Gregory, and Ruest; and an option year contract page for Ruest, with Gardens letterhead, signed by Gregory, Ruest, and 2 signatures of Gerry McNamara. Each of these documents has the NHL Central Registry stamp applied, and all are in terrific condition. The Dolloff and Burgess contracts measure 8 ½” x 17” when opened up. Ruest’s 1974 Agreement is a 3-pager measuring 8 ½” x 14”, and also include two Campbell initials along with the signatures. A paper clip mark is on the top of page 1. Ruest’s Try-Out Agreement measures 8 ½” x 11”, as does the option year page. Clarence Campbell was inducted into the HOF in 1966 and deceased in 1984, Jim Gregory was inducted into the Hall in 2007, Gerry McNamara was a scout for the Leafs who eventually became Leafs GM, and Howard Starkman, who began his career with the Leafs as a PR man, is now a top-level executive with the Toronto Blue Jays.
