Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
A two-time Stanley Cup champion with Boston’s Big, Bad Bruins of the early-1970s, goalie Gerry Cheevers was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985. Cheesey sported the most recognizable goalie mask in hockey history, a distinctive and readily-identifiable look that was achieved when black “stitch marks” were added to the mask where it saved him from damage by being struck by a puck. The WHA’s goalie of the year with Cleveland in 1972-73, Cheevers was presented this Honored Member 10-karat gold and diamond ring by the HOF. There are three real diamonds, including two on the bezel and one as the puck on the blade of the player’s stick on the tableau. “Cheevers” is inscribed on a banner above the modern HOF logo on the left shank and the image of the exterior of the HOF is on the right shank. “IGO 10K” is stamped inside the size 9 band of this beauty that weighs in at about 18 grams. Wonderfully preserved with some light scratches on the tableau and a couple of marks on the band from proud wear. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve. Comes with Gerry Cheevers’ signed LOA.
