Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Magnificent personal award was presented to veteran blueliner Bill Gadsby for his leadership and fine play throughout the 1963-64 NHL playoffs. For a guy who never sipped from Lord Stanley’s coveted trophy in 20 years as a player, Gadsby came oh so close in the spring of 1964. The Red Wings came from a 3-games-to-2 deficit to oust Chicago in the semi-finals and were up 3-2 in the finals before the Maple Leafs dealt them the same fate, rallying to win games 6 and 7 and dash Detroit’s dream. The 10-inch in diameter silver plated bowl here is five inches high and is engraved below a Red Wings logo “Olympia Room Award – Most Valuable Player – Stanley Cup Series 1964 – Bill Gadsby.” In excellent condition with tarnishing to the silver plated finish to be noted, with no major flaws to mention. Originally from Bill Gadsby's personal collection with a Classic Auctions LOA.
