Dandy provenance accompanies this 61” vintage stick with “Raymond Hardware Ltd. SSW” printed on it, with the varnished twig signed in blue ballpoint pen by 18 members of the Stanley Cup champion 1956-57 Montreal Canadiens including deceased HOFers Maurice Richard (ind. 1961, dec. 2000), Doug Harvey (ind. 1973, dec. 1989), Jacques Plante (ind. 1978, dec. 1986), Boom Boom Geoffrion (ind. 1972, dec. 2006), Tom Johnson (ind. 1970, dec. 2007), and coach Toe Blake (ind. 1966, dec. 1995), plus 4 more HOFers and 8 others from one of the greatest teams to ever hit the ice. The accompanying LOA details the events surrounding our consignor’s receiving of the stick when he was 9-years old in a Toronto hospital. Signatures are clear and legible, with only Dickie Moore’s and Jacques Plante’s being faded somewhat. The LOA, signed by the consignor in 2006, describes the circumstances when he was visited in the hospital when he was nine by none other than R. Alan Eagleson, who was not only in his first year as the NHL players’ rep, but who was also the boy’s former Sunday School teacher. Also present that day were Habs coach Toe Blake and legendary wrestlers Whipper Billy Watson and Pat Flanagan. Joining the aforementioned deceased HOFer sigs on the stick are HOFers Jean Beliveau (ind. 1972), Dickie Moore (ind. 1974), Bert Olmstead (ind. 1985), and Henri Richard (ind. 1979), along with Jean Guy Talbot, Don Marshall, Floyd Curry, Claude Provost, Phil Goyette, Bob Turner, Andre Pronovost, and Dollard St. Laurent. The LOA lists the stick with a typo as “1956-1956” but with both Goyette and Pronovost joining the team in ’56-57, we place this as from then, along with handwritten on the blade reading as “Autographed by the Montreal Canadiens 1957 team”.
