Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
A two-time Lady Byng Trophy winner, HOF center Jean Ratelle is among the classiest players ever to lace ‘em up in the NHL. Ratelle’s white mesh 1980-81 Boston Bruins game-worn jersey from his final NHL season has the bear’s head logo patches sewn on both shoulders and a Champion size 44 flag tag in the back of the collar. A two-time 100-point scorer, Jean closed out his 21-year career with 11 goals and 37 points in 47 games in his Bruins and league swan song. Solid game wear features a pair of team repairs on the front tail, another team sewing fix on the left hip seam, blue paint transfer on the rear tail and board burns with red paint transfer on the sleeves. Please note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
[red] Addendum; take not that due to information we have received from a long time Boston Bruins jersey collector that we do believe that this jersey is in fact from the 1976-77 season (and not the 1980-81 season as originally listed) and was worn in the timeline listed below. [/red]
[red] Champion during the 1975 training camp, Wilson during pre-season games (Champion could have been used as well).
Wilson with Bicentennial patch during the 75-76 regular season.
Wilson and Champion during the 1976 playoffs.
Wilson during 1976 training camp and pre-season games (Champion could have been used as well).
Bruins open at home with Champion, then switch off back and forth between Wilson and Champion into October before Champion takes over totally.
Stall&Dean takes over around January or February. Champion road goes bye bye totally, but Champion home comes back for three special regular-season games with nameplates, and is used along with Stall&Dean throughout the playoffs, including the final two games of the SCF series in Boston.
Champion is used in the 1977 training camp (George Plimpton wears a Cheevers No. 30 while skating with Seaweed Pettie during camp in his book Open Net).
Champion is never again worn in a game after the 77 playoffs, but hang around to be used in different capacities through at least the 1981 training camp. [/red]
