Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
How cool is this? This vintage 1940s wool jersey worn by war veterans who played hockey upon their return to Canada after service in World War II sponsored by the British Empire Service League – Canadian Legion. The league featured an all African-Canadian hockey team and this beauty with the League’s logo sewn on the front is a red and green wool wonder with number 2 sewn on the back in white and green double felt. It measures out to a size 44 and displays three neat team repairs on the left front just below the level of the bottom of the crest, another vintage sewing fix on the back of the left sleeve, and a larger team repair on the right sleeve. The Canadian Legion was founded in 1925 as The Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League. In 1960, Queen Elizabeth II granted the Legion royal patronage and it became the Royal Canadian Legion.
