Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Slightly older hockey fans will remember Rendez-Vous ’87 well. NHL All-Stars pitted against the Soviet National team in a two-game showdown at Quebec City that saw the two powerhouse squads split the series. One of those suiting up for the NHL All-Stars was pesky Edmonton Oilers star Esa Tikkanen, and we have, direct from the collection of Brett Hull, Esa’s game-worn jersey from Rendez-Vous ’87. Tagged in the collar as a “Maska Air-Knit” (size) "S” (although it doesn’t look small to us), this All-Star gamer, with the Rendez-Vous patch on the right sleeve, the inside cut fight strap, and double CCM embroidered patches on the hem, has a series of marks on the front and on both sleeves. We’ve also been able to photo-match it to various areas, and it comes with an LOA signed by Brett Hull. Perfect! It’s always great when we’re able to photo-match game-worn items, and with this jersey we’ve done just that with the matching of the two black marks in the white band on the lower front of the jersey on an action photo, and photo-matched (to a posed photo) to the black thread and extra sewing thread on the top left star and the grouping of thread on the lower part of the crest (from left - 6 threads, a space, 5 threads, a space, and then 3 threads). Perfect! And the game results? The NHLers won the first game 4-3 but lost the second two nights later, which ended as a 5-3 Soviet win.
