Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Clipped from hockey calendars ranging from 1939 to the ‘70s is this massive stack of NHL photos, along with cut-out covers from vintage Hockey Pictorial and Sport Revue magazines, plus with a serious amount of grand old full-length player photos that Canadian newspaper magazines across the country would print in various years of the 1960s and which kids everywhere would clip and usually paste in scrapbooks. From the 1939 Imperial Oil NHL Stars calendar are 22 examples which have all been cut and measure approximately 7” x 8 ½”, featuring NHL stars on front and back and include 3 - Frank Boucher/Marty Barry, 2 – Aurele Joliat/Syl Apps, 4 – Red Horner/Jimmy Ward, 5 – Eddie Shore/Sweeney Schriner, 5 – Baldy Northcott/Gord Drillon, and 3 – Wilf Cude/Kids playing. These 1939 calendar pictures show some creasing and edge wear on the majority of them. The full-length player-posed pictures from newspaper magazines include the likes of Sawchuk, Plante, Beliveau, Horton, Delvecchio, Duff, Geoffrion, Mikita, Howe, Stanley, and reams more, with most of great condition. Fascinating indeed to browse through the heaps of photos here, with team pictures from the big leagues to farm teams, juniors and teams miscellaneous such as the senior Whitby Dunlops, Ottawa Senators, and Sudbury Wolves to name a few. Fond memories and hours of pleasure await you as you go through this lot that remains in overall good condition, although it’s easy to tell some have been quickly clipped. Even the idea of creating new scrapbooks from these comes to mind.
