Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Shades of the beloved Montreal Expos are all over this lot of Expos farm team game-worn gear including an awesome 1980s Indianapolis Indians batting helmet in the classic red, white and blue colors with “I” front and centre. The Rawlings helmet saw its share of action, with marks lining every square inch of it, but remains fully intact and ready to protect heads at any given moment. This cool head piece has the size labeled on the back as a “Large 7 1/8 – 7 1/4”, with alongside a warning label and the name “Pevey”, most likely for Marty Pevey who played for the Indians in 1988 and 1989 and briefly for the Expos in 1989. A small number “18” has been placed on the brim as well. On the inside, all padding is in place, with a small amount of wear on the ear padding. During the 1980s when the Indians were affiliated with the Expos, they would win 4 division titles in a 6-year span and 2 consecutive Triple-A Classic playoffs. Expos stars such as Delino DeShields, Andres Galarraga, Marquis Grissom, Randy Johnson, and Larry Walker suited up for the Indians during these years. Also in this lot is an early-1970s Quebec Carnavals uniform, with the white with red and blue trim shirt having a blue number “20” sewn on the right breast and a stitched-on Carnavals logo sewn on the right breast. Number “20” is on the back, mirroring the numbers font the parent team used. Sewn on the front hem is a “Rawlings” washing instructions patch with size “42”. This jersey is lined with dirt on front and back, maybe from some hard sliding into second. The matching pants have 3 patches sewn into the inside waist, including “Rawlings” washing instructions with size “32”, “24 inseam”, and “Set 1 #8P 1973”. The pants have a scattering of marks, and both knees have repair patches sewn in. The Carnavals played in the AA Eastern League from 1971 to 1975 and were located in Quebec City (Quebec).
