Despite a third place finish in the East Division, the Montreal Alouettes made it to the 1970 Grey Cup final in Toronto, where they defeated the Calgary Stampeders 23-10 to claim their first championship since 1949. Hall of Fame tight end Peter Dalla Riva was presented with this miniature silver Grey Cup trophy by the Canadian Football League in recognition of the team's title. The silver cup has "Presented by his Excellency Earl Grey for the Amateur Rugby Football Championship of Canada" engraved on its face and measures just under three inches tall. Mounted atop a circular, tiered wood base, the trophy stands approximately 4 1/2" tall. A silver plaque mounted on the front of the base features the CFL logo with "Montreal 1970" engraved beneath it. The silver is quite tarnished and the front right part of the base and the left edge are a bit chipped. The silver cup has come unglued where it is mounted to the base. Otherwise, this remarkable championship trophy remains an outstanding testament to an Alouettes team that laid the foundation for two more Grey Cup titles in the 1970s. This rarely seen Grey Cup trophy is originally from Peter Dalla Riva's personal collection.
