A classic rematch of the previous year's Subway Series as the cross-town rival Yankees and Dodgers matched up for the 1953 World Series, with Brooklyn hoping for avenge their '52 loss and end the Yankees domination of 4 straight championships. We have 3 ticket stubs from this classic series, games 4 and 5 at Ebbets Field, and game 6 at Yankee Stadium when the Yanks once again captured the title after feisty Billy Martin knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to give his Bronx Bombers a 4-3 win and the Series. These 3 ticket stubs, measuring just over 2" x 4", have been preserved in great condition with only minor edge and corner wear, some faint creases in the Ebbets Field pair, and a couple of tiny, hard to see marks on the Yanks stub. Whoever it was who had these tickets we’re offering was a very lucky person indeed. What a Series! The great old ticket stubs from games 4 and 5 at long gone Ebbets Field in Brooklyn came from a reserved seat in the upper stands, with the exorbitant price of $7.00 and the game 6 stub from Yankee Stadium is a bleacher ticket with the somewhat more reasonable cost of $2.00. Game 4 at Ebbets Field, won by the Dodgers 7-3 and which evened the Series at two-apiece, had Billy Loes starting on the mound for Brooklyn and Whitey Ford for the Yanks, with Duke Snider blasting one over the fence for the home team and Gil McDougall doing the same for the Yanks. Game 5 at Ebbets saw the Yanks rebound with an 11-7 score when the legendary Mickey Mantle blasted a grand slam into the upper deck in left field. Jim McDonald got the win and Johnny Podres the loss. The Yanks hit 4 dingers in this game, from Gene Woodling, Mantle, Billy Martin and Gil McDougall, while the Dodgers replied with homers from Billy Cox and Junior Gilliam. The 6th and final contest, held at Yankee Stadium, saw the Dodgers down 3-1 in the 9th, but after Duke Snider drew a one-out walk, Carl Furillo found the right field stands and the game was tied. But in the bottom of the 9th, Billy Martin singled to center scoring Hank Bauer who had reached base on a walk, and the Yankees posted their 5th straight World Series in dramatic fashion. Yanks reliever Allie Reynolds earned the win and Clem Labine the loss, while Brooklyn’s Carl Furillo had the lone homer in this game.
