It makes you appreciate today’s skates even more when you lay your eyes on a couple of pairs of 1970s skates worn by HOF Larry Robinson (ind. 1995) and big Pierre Bouchard who crashed and thumped with the Habs from 1970 to 1978 before moving to the Washington Capitals for three more seasons. Big Bird’s size 11 skates are the old Micron plastic molded non-flexible specials, showing his number 19 handwritten on vintage tape attached to the outside of the boot bottom, as well as on the back of the skate insert. They’re in good shape with normal scuffing, and how great is it to own blades worn by the mighty Robinson! We don’t see a size on Pierre Bouchard’s Lange plastic molded gamers but they look to be about a 10, in good condition with normal scuffing and a few nicks only. Pierre’s number 26 is handwritten on the back of the skate insert, and as the case with both Larry’s and Pierre’s, the stainless steel Tuuk blades are rust free. These types of plastic molded skates like the ones offered here don’t quite measure up in this day and age, but they were certainly popular with pros, especially defencemen, back in the day, providing tons of protection and they didn’t get heavier as they got wetter. But that was then and this is now. Definitely cool, though.
