Not many could bury the biscuit or set up others like Marcel Dionne, and we have one of his weapons, a twig that no doubt struck fear into many a goalie when the puck found its way to this blade. This great old wooden CCM, with original white tape on both the blade and knob (which has a handwritten “16” on it), shows a nice amount of game marks scattered about, and which has the date Oct. 28, 1983 stamped on the lower area of the shaft, dating this gamer to the ’83-84 season, a year when all Mr. Dionne could muster was a typically sensational 39 goals and 53 assists for 92 points in 66 games, just another season at the office for this magician. Dionne, who was taken second behind Guy Lafleur in the 1971 NHL Entry Draft, would take his rightful place in the Hall of Fame in 1992, and at this writing holds down fifth spot on the NHL’s all-time points leader board with 1771 points, behind only Gretzky, Messier, Howe, and Francis. In fact, aside from Jaromir Jagr, who has a chance of catching him if he plays another year or two, it’ll take some kind of herculean effort from any young star to come even close to Dionne’s numbers.
