Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Great teams combine stars and grinders, and the powerhouse Edmonton Oilers were no different, boasting the likes of Gretzky, Kurri, and Messier and all, plus pesky disturber Esa Tikkanen, who not only was more than adept at getting under opponents’ skin, but could also bulge the twine, contributing several 30-goal seasons along the way. Up for bids is the Finnish-born Tikkanen’s game-used Koho, signed in clear black marker on the heel as “To Donna, All the best, Esa Tikkanen 1990”, featuring original black tape on the blade and bluish-green tape, with added white, on the knob. Heavy marks line the shaft of this gamer, and “Tikkanen” is stamped near the top, while near the bottom is stamped “492 5”. A fine stick from a player generally not loved by opponents, but a guy who managed a tidy 630 points in 877 games.
