Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Very nice Montreal Canadiens home jersey is a circa 1989 gamer worn by Brian Skrudland with the captain's "C" on the left breast. The ragged stitching job that attached the blue-and-red double twill "C" to Skrudland's #39 game-worn white Habs jersey, likely in the absence of HOFers Bob Gainey and Larry Robinson, identifies his leadership role on the Habs of the late-1980s. The absence of the NHL shield on the rear hem dates this gamer as prior to 1990-91 and it's unlikely that Skrudland wore the "C" the previous season when Guy Carbonneau and Chris Chelios alternated wearing it as they shared the team's captaincy. Maska tagging remains in the neck and the fight strap is intact on this gamer which displays nice wear with a number of circular team repairs, board burns and multiple marks. A rare example of a Habs gamer with a "C" worn by a player who was never named team captain.
